Another year in Vegas. Another tsunami of cameras, lenses and gear goodness. I am going to be posting a few of the things that caught my eye, and a few new tricks I learnt at Post Production World.
First up, Transcriptive from Digital Anarchy. Of all the things at NAB this year, this was one of the most exciting. Transcriptive is an AI based plugin that automates transcription straight from your timeline in Adobe Premiere Pro. It provides timecoded text, with identified speakers with a 96% accuracy. All this in about 25% of real time. This means that you can get an hour of interview dialogue transcribed and delivered back to you in about 15 minutes. Text is easy to search and edit within Premier, and then you can then export to a simple text file, markers on your timeline or even SRT files. All at a fraction of the cost of traditional transcription services. I was skeptical at first. Especially after trying to make use of Adobe's previous speech to text tools in Premier 2015. But, I was able to see it in action on the show floor and it seems to be the real deal.
Did I mention that it uses IBM's Watson AI for transcription? The very same Watson that made Ken Jennings look like a chump on Jeopardy. With the purchase of Transcriptive you get 16 hours of free transcription every month from Watson. After that is is just $0.02 a minute.
I, for one, welcome our robot overlords.
